Besta Toneless Pinyin Search
Besta Toneless Multi-Pinyin Search: If you already have a Besta 8600, T-8000, T-9000, S-5000/Super5000, or S-9988/Super9988, etc. then you’ll know that it can’t search on two or more pinyin unless you tell it what the characters are first. This is very inconvenient for non-Chinese speakers learning Mandarin, because we often don’t know how to write the Chinese characters that we’re searching for, nor do we know what tones we’re searching for. I’ve written software to allow Besta translators to search on multiple pinyins without tones! My software gives you two search methods ... - Search Method #1 is fast (around 1 second per search) and allows you to search for ...
- double pinyins without tones, e.g. huoche.
The number of 2-pinyin meanings in the fast dictionary is over 32,000. These entries cover my everyday needs 95% of the time. I live in China and have been using my special Besta dictionary every day for many years! - Search Method #2 is slow (10-60 seconds per search) but allows you to search for ...
- any number of pinyins without tones, e.g. renshanrenhai, or
- any number of pinyins with tones, e.g. tu2shu1guan3.
The number of entries in the slow dictionary is over 110,000. (N.B. It includes all entries from the fast dictionary.)
Both methods show you all matching combinations of tones, Chinese characters (both traditional and simplified form), and English. For example, searching on “huoche” gives both “31 train” and “41 truck” and the associated Chinese characters. (That’s just a simple example.) Then if you want, you can even highlight and double-click on Chinese or English words in my dictionary to see their definition, just like you can with the built-in Besta dictionaries! My intention of putting this software on the web is to sell it since I spent many months writing the code and then many more months improving it (in fact over 2 years in total), so I’m selling my special dictionary for $25 USD. This price is tiny compared to the cost of the Besta itself. You can pay in any of the following ways: - Cash – You can pay by direct bank deposit if you have an Australian, Hong Kong, or mainland China bank account.
- Credit Card – I can email you an electronic invoice which can be paid using a credit card via the PayPal payment system.
- Debit Card – I can email you an electronic invoice which can be paid using a debit card via the PayPal payment system.
- PayPal – I can email you an electronic invoice which can be paid with a PayPal credit balance.
If for some reason you can’t install the dictionary or it doesn’t work then I’ll give you your money back. Use the Contact Us link if you want to buy the special dictionary or would like more information. Toneless Two-Pinyin Search Screenshots: The screenshots below are from my Besta T-8000 but the software works the same way in all Besta models I believe. (The software has been tested on 4 different models so far: 8600, T-8000, S-5000/Super5000, and S-9988/Super9988.) Each example shows the result of a 2-pinyin search (i.e. Search Method #1). The first line shows the search string. Subsequent lines show the search results. Each meaning is listed on a new line with the tones first, then the traditional characters, then the simplified characters (if different from the traditional ones), then the English meanings (which sometimes include examples and/or classifiers). Note: My dictionary is constantly being improved and expanded. The images below (from 2010) may differ slightly from those of the latest dictionary that I will give you.
